Ivanica Skalko's (VU 2022) Pittsburgh March Madness Recap
On Sunday March 20, the Villanova Wildcats went head-to-head with the Ohio State Buckeyes. The stadium was buzzing following Houston’s win just 30 minutes before the Wildcats played. The crowd was amped up with energy- the mascots and cheer teams were both having fun on the court getting everyone excited as the teams walked out. The game started with Ohio getting the ball and missing the opportunity for a lead; Villanova quickly recovered to begin what would be a lead for most of the game. Ohio, although ranked lower than Villanova, was powerful competition for the whole game. The Wildcats played strong defense and had some of their best shooting averages of the season, but the Buckeyes really kept up and did not let the trailing score deter them. Villanova was shaken towards the end of the second half as their lead slowly dwindled, but they quickly got it together to finish strong and win. The stadium was electric with Villanova’s win and a secured spot to the Sweet 16!
